A Special Message for My Seniors

Dear Seniors,

If you’re still discovering who you are and haven’t yet decided what you want to pursue after graduation, that’s perfectly okay! We all have unique talents and gifts, and not everyone is on the same journey. While some individuals may have a clear career path in mind, many (which I believe is the majority) may still be uncertain about their next steps. Whether you’re contemplating a college degree, attending trade school to master a craft, or teaching yourself a skill to start your own business, remember to be patient and give yourself the grace to explore your options. What sparks your interest? What are you passionate about? It’s alright if you’re still searching for those answers.

I definitely recommend choosing a path that will help you pay your bills! Haha! However, I also urge you to think creatively and explore various possibilities that might ignite your inspiration and creativity.

Our society needs a diverse range of professionals: nurses, photographers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, social workers, wildlife biologists, and agriculturists. We also need skilled tradespeople like construction workers, electricians, mechanics, plumbers, welders, cosmetologists, estheticians, landscapers, and small business owners. It truly takes all kinds of talents to keep our society functioning. Many of us wouldn’t be here without our doctors, and those doctors rely on the infrastructure created by construction workers to reach the hospitals.

My personal story: After high school, I was completely unsure of my future. I initially decided to pursue nursing, thinking it was a safe choice. (Does this sound familiar?) I’m someone who likes to have a plan and a backup plan for everything. However, once I began my classes, I realized that nursing wasn’t the right fit for me. Leaving college without a clear plan was a scary decision, but I’m grateful I did; otherwise, I wouldn’t have discovered a creative career that still allows me to serve others in a different capacity.

Remember, you don’t need to have everything figured out by the time you graduate high school. Research your interests, shadow professionals, and try different experiences. If something doesn’t resonate, feel free to pivot and explore another option. If you believe that Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again to give you eternal life in heaven, know that God is within you! He can guide you in every aspect of your life and wants to be involved, no matter which direction you choose.

So, embrace the journey ahead with an open mind and a willing spirit. Sometimes the unexpected twists and turns lead us to the most fulfilling results. Trust the process, and remember that every step you take is a step towards discovering more about yourself and the world around you. Keep your curiosity alive, and know that you are capable of achieving great things.
