Enhancing Your Flat Lay Detail Photos

Capturing flat lay details is one of my favorite aspects of the wedding day. These elements bring sentiment, uniqueness, and a touch of magic to your special day. Here are my top tips for brides looking to enhance their detail photos.

Wedding Invitations and Paper Goods

Select an invitation set that reflects your wedding style. This is the first impression your guests will have, so ensure it embodies your aesthetic.

– Opt for a color scheme that complements your overall wedding theme.
– Ensure your paper goods are immaculate, free from any blemishes or creases.
– Provide your photographer with two complete sets of invitations, including envelopes, save-the-dates, RSVP cards, and any other paper items, especially if they are double-sided.

  • 2 Sets of Invitations + Envelopes
  • 2 RSVP & Detail Cards
  • 2 Sets of Save-the-Dates + Envelopes
  • Wax Seal
  • Vellum Paper
  • Vow Books
  • Favors
  • Custom menus
  • Programs
  • Custom Napkins
  • Guest Book

A Ring Box

You’ll need a beautiful box to showcase your exquisite rings, which are available in various shapes, sizes & color.

– Select a color that complements your overall color scheme or opt for a neutral tone.
– Some boxes can even be personalized with your new initials, creating a lovely keepsake that you’ll cherish for years. If you prefer a non-personalized box, check with your photographer to see if they provide their own.
– Remember to store all rings in some type of box to keep them secure

Bride Details

Your wedding dress is one of the most significant detail elements of the day, but all the little pieces you have worked so hard to collect tell the story of you.
– Consider investing in a custom-made hanger for your gown, featuring words like “bride,” your new last name, or your wedding date.
– Make sure your dress is steamed and ready to go on your preferred hanger.

  • Dress – steamed & preferred Hanger
  • Veil
  • Custom Hanger
  • Engagement Ring
  • Wedding band
  • Bouquet
  • Shoes
  • Earrings
  • Bracelet
  • Necklace
  • Hair Pieces
  • Garter
  • Perfume Bottle

Groom Details

Just like yours, your groom’s details are a unique part of your day’s story.

– You may love the idea of having your groom’s suit photographed alongside your dress. If you’d like to feature the groom’s suit in your photos, ensure it is steamed and placed on a preferred hanger.
– Just like yours, your groom’s hanger can be personalized too.
– Don’t forget to inform your photographer if your groom’s ring or watch has been engraved. It adds a sentimental touch that you will want to remember.

  • Groom’s Suit – steamed on preferred hanger
  • Wedding Band
  • Boutonniere
  • Custom Hanger
  • Socks
  • Belt
  • Bowtie or Tie
  • Cufflinks
  • Watch
  • Cologne Bottle
  • Handkerchief

Heirloom Items

Nothing says sentimental quite like an heirloom piece.

– Whether you’re wearing your mother’s earrings, your grandmother’s string of pearls, or incorporating your family Bible into your special day, remember to share these treasures with your photographer. They add a meaningful touch, weaving a beautiful narrative into your photos.
– Please feel free to share the items you’d like captured with me before the wedding, so we can explore how to seamlessly integrate them into your images in the most special way.

  • Watch
  • Jewelry
  • Brooch
  • Family bible

Loose Flowers + Greenery

One of the most effective ways to enhance your flat lay photos is by incorporating flowers from your special day.

– You can chat with your florist to set aside a few of your wedding blooms. These delicate petals bring a touch of natural elegance and serve as a wonderful way to connect all the details. They act as the perfect softening element when I’m arranging a flat lay of your invitation suite, adding just the right amount of pop.
– Typically, we will need to trim these flowers quite short, making them unsuitable for cake decoration later. Make sure to request a variety of blooms, especially with greenery and smaller flowers, to provide depth and texture to your images.

Bonus Tips

  1. Gather all the details you want photographed into a box— a shoebox works perfectly! This way, when your photographer arrives, they can start capturing the details right away instead of searching for items and hoping to have everything you wished to include.
  2. Capturing details takes time. Make sure to allow your photographer sufficient time to document all the items you’ve provided. Depending on how many pieces you have, this process can take up to 1.5 hours.
  3. If there are certain items you’re indifferent about having photographed, feel free not to include them. We don’t want to add things just for the sake of it. I want to create a flat lay using the meaningful items you’ve chosen to beautifully integrate all the elements of your day.
  4. Please share your color scheme, along with a quick photo of your details and invitation set before the wedding day with me. This will help me envision how to create your flat lay and spark inspiration.
  5. Be sure to coordinate with your florist to ensure they deliver your bouquet, boutonniere, and any extra stemmed flowers in time for your photographer to use.
